If you come from an older generation, you likely remember when living green was commonly practiced. Most people would have their own gardens or buy their produce from the local store; of course, this was before the big fast food rage. For those who can recall, almost everyone grew some kind of garden or they could go the local farmer’s market. Nowadays people need to examine the food labels only to see what is in it. People began gardening as a means to provide food for their families, and to ensure they stored the excess foods for the winter months when they could not plant their food. “Waste not, want not” was a popular phrase so what was not eaten was put back into the garden.
